Happy Box Thoughts
Subject: Night Walk 1/5/14
Running and walking and talking with Torthadiel, my best friend sister.
We hugged trees and tried to solve the mystery of the footprints spaced far apart in the sidewalk.
1.23.14
Hanging out on Torthadiel's bed all afternoon. Talking and laughing and sitting next to each other all over each other. Reading and surfing Tumblr. My sister makes me happy!
Sledding in all sorts of different light, shadow, and brightness. Afternoon yellow, then sunset orange slashing across the hills. Then deep and deeper blue. At the cabin with C. and all of my family.
Playing and just worshipping on the walk up, laughing and yelling, eyes wide open, hair blowing in the wind on the way down. Exhilaration. 1.26.14
Subject: a movie night 1.24.14
Watching Red Dog with my family for the second time.
So happy
Beautiful soundtrack
Subject: beauty 1/12/14
Sledding with Yo under a grey cloudy sky.

One way to do one of those "looking back over the year" things...
Subject: Bridging the gaps of an evolving heart
After watching "DMT: the spirit molecule", having finished, started, and finished two crochet projects of the prettiest color. 10/10/12
This morning was lovely in so many ways, as I lay here, listening to "Secret on the moors" by David Arkenstone and remembering hanging out with Starchild and Yo at Starchild's apartment, I am happy. 10/23/12
Sledding at the cabin, underneath the full moon with my siblings. Everything so bright and beautiful and happy. December 28th 2012
Subject: The smell, sound, feel of rain. Utter bliss with siblings.
Running around the block, bare feet and socks slapping on the wet asphalt, one of my brothers took his shoes off at the start of the third black, barely in the faint orange light of the lamppost. Torthadiel, Erumeren, Hammer head and me. 4/1/13
Sigur Ros Untitiled No. 3 in my room, dark from the overcast sky outside. I am working on my bacterium story, happy to write unreigned, unrestrained. The song turned up as high as it can go, humming in my bones, sweet in my throat and loud in my ears, my heart rejoicing. 5/17/13
Subject: Contact from very dear old friends 3/28/13
Receiving an email forwarded by dad from our dear friends -- They say they have internet now and they'd like to skype with us!

Happy Box Thoughts Numero Cinco
˙ǝpısʇno sǝǝɹƃǝp 0ᄅ punoɹɐ
Subject: Ghost in the graveyard and games the kids invented themselves
3/23/23
Nightgames with everyone down to Wynnie plus Dad, the brand tag on the front of his puffcoat glinting in the flashlight as we played searchlight.
Subject: Sundays are the best and Summer is here!
6/9/13
Hiking as far as we could go, stopping to climb a boulder and crossing an un-bridged stream before turning back, laughing and talking and singing down to the cabin.
My sister and I wove flowers in each other's hair almost the whole time.
3/13/23 Subject: We are having a Spring break LotR marathon
Watching the first half of Fellowship of the Ring with Torthadiel on my bed on my laptop. Talking and laughing, snuggled up amongst pillows and giant stuffed animals

Happy box thoughts
Subject: The smell, sound, feel of rain. Utter bliss with siblings.
4/1/13
Running around the block, bare feet and socks slapping on the wet asphalt. Jesse took his shoes off at the start of the third block, barely in the faint orange light of a lamppost. Jm, Torthadiel, TE and me.
Subject: Wet cloth and fur under gray skies.
Running through the rain with the Chocolate Chip dog, her leash in one hand, my umbrella flapping in the air in the other. Elation, wet, wonderful happiness.
5/7/13
Subject: Easter
Mar/31/13
Hiding eggs around the yard with B and the big kids and then watching the little kids dart to and fro, spotting the eggs in the high places, seizing the ones in the low.

A few visitors from the happy box
Subject: Rain Dance
Dancing after and in the rain, a variety of songs playing in my head, from Gypsy Kings to U2
7/11/12
Subject: Joyful day, calloo, callay!
I was frequently happy yesterday, during the sunset, eating hot fudge, and generally marveling at the beauty of the world.
6/28/12
Sitting in the kitchen while the wind rages outside, listening to Mom and G. talk about creativity, work, and the state of the world. G. brings hope and beauty and happiness with him.

Some Happy Thoughts from the Happy Box
Subject: A roller coaster for Amoniel.
Listening to and watching an incredible piano video on YouTube, my heart soaring, doing the [emotional] yoyo all through the video. Better than any roller coaster I've ever been on.
8/7/12
I am just happy right now; I got everything I need to done, my dresser's clean, Princess is all ready for bed and tomorrow's Independence day! We have one thing we're definitely going to do and a few others we might.
7/3/12
*Hey, full moon tonight.*
Subject: Camping at the lodge.
Last night, hiking in the dark with the big kids and J. and B., camping out in the open. Watching the stars and seeing a comet!

Happy 2012 box (many thanks to Abby @ Following God)
I made a Happy 2012 "jar" (it's actually a box) last Thursday, and since I'm feeling down right now, I figured I might as well share it with you today.
I put this box together immediately after reading the guest post on Lucia etcetera. The funny thing is, everything I used to decorate the box was, well, picked up from my floor. The box has been floating around my room for a while too, waiting for some sort of purpose to manifest itself. So I guess you could say the whole thing was upcycled :)
I've been recording the small events and occurrences that have made me happy at the end of each day, often times that's the best . I write them with my favorite pen on small, ripped scraps of scratch paper, it makes the little bits of happiness seem all the more spur-of-the-moment and raw, I think. Something I've spoken about with R a few times.
(I'm going to randomly select a few slips of paper from the box and write their contents underneath each photo.)
The baked beans mom made, so sweet, so savory, so short lived ~5/11/12
The cottonwood seeds blowing across town, like warm, spring snow. ~5/10/12
Anyway, I know I made this with the year already half over, but I encourage you to do the same anyway :)
I think it's important to remember the small things in life; and it's important to have some way to remind yourself that you have lots of things to be happy about.

The light shining through the trees as I lay on the tramp while I babysat the Ws. The sun was setting. ~5/11/12
Daddy getting home after being at the Troubled Youth conference for two days. ~5/11/12
Flying down the street on T's bike after going to an interview thing. The sun shone bright yellow, it was late afternoon, and I was thoroughly exhilarated. ~5/14/12
The clouds at the end of the day as we were driving home from Spanish class. ~5/10/12
And a couple of hastily taken photo from today to show how full it is:
Sending J and K an email with a link and a photo of my happy 2012 box :) ~5/10/12
