Just a Thought on a Holiday Long Past

I really like the spanish translation for Valentines day in my textbook, "el día del amor y la amistad", in English, "the day of love and friendship."
This better fits my personal interpretation of Valentines day, that it's also for friend and familial love; not just for romance, but for the recognition and appreciation of ALL the people in your heart and life.

Sunsets

You told me to write something about JRR Tolkien in my journal, I started to forget even as I was writing it down.

It's strange how people show up in our dreams.
It takes months for a new baby sibling to become a regular; or suddenly a person you know about, an actor or writer or anybody will just be there one night, saying and doing things you don't quite remember on waking.
You might fall in love with a boy you actually thought was kind of ugly after a particular dream of him, and then you'll start watching him and notice how kind and sweet he is to his little sister, and you'll know something about him, something new and rare and precious. He'll become a part of you, or maybe he was already a part of you, but it took a dream for you to understand that.

Secret

My secret is I have not cultivated talents that will measure up to any of society's standards. I am not competitive; as a matter of fact, I am anti-competitive, I learn the things no one else knows. I live behind the scenes.

Dreamed that I got a prompt on Facebook to make my profile "greener"; it said to delete pretty much everything but my newsfeed and wall. I ignored the prompt.

The Things My Father Has Taught Me

 Balance is the key to everything

·      Always read good books

·      There is beauty in most, if not all religions and philosophies

·      Read the bible, if only to get most of the jokes that pervade society

·      Watch good TV; shows that inspire, provoke thought, and educate

·      Watch good movies; films that inspire, provoke deep thought, new ways of looking at the world around you, and educate.

·      Search for beauty, not truth, and be always compassionate

·      Empathy over sympathy, and compassion over empathy

·      Immerse yourself in other cultures

·      Be ever humble and teachable

·      Work hard, and volunteer to work for friends free of charge, or dirt cheap

·      Have good taste in food, clothing, and people

·      Love the wild, love nature; love the forest, desert, and ocean

·      Be kind to the earth

·      Travel, love travel; love going to new places and experiencing new thing, but be careful with your car and gas resource

·      Know how to repair your vehicle, as well as how to change the oil and refill antifreeze and windshield wiper fluid
